Sex at a young age

In the Netherlands, the law protects young people against having sexual intercourse when they are younger than 16.

Having sex with a child between the ages of 12 and 16 years old is also a criminal offence, but the law does take into account normal experimental behavior between young people. When it concerns peers in an equal relationship it is allowed. This means it is okay for a 17-year old boy to have sex with a 15-year old girl, or if two 14-year olds have sex with each other. If they both want to, of course.

Sex with a child younger than 12 is always a criminal offence.
